Brief
To supply an awning on the flight deck of a prototype trimaran warship.
Design
The requirement for an awning to fit a helideck of the trimaran research vessel MV Triton was finalised at a point in the build schedule when no hot work would be permitted on the helideck. Custom Covers were invited to help solve the problem of fixing a temporary structure to the back of a moored vessel using the existing deck fixtures and fittings.
A detailed survey of the deck was undertaken which identified that a series of container twistlock fittings were included in the design and that good hatch access has been designed to the storage area.
The design of the awning then used a combination of marquee technology and awning design to produce a large canvas awning. The awning legs were able to lock into the twistlocks transferring the load through the deck
Working to a tight time scale the frame covers and a decorative lining were delivered to the vessel in the pool of London in time for the inaugural reception.
This design has been subsequently adapted for use on a vessel offshore fisheries protection vessel. The latter awnings being shown in the photos.
