 
Production and Technical Director Simon Bell presents first prize in the Custom Covers
design competition to Odell Brookes and the winning design featuring the stunning
James Bond roof.
As part of an ongoing initiative to involve the designers of tomorrow with the industry of today, the 2007 Custom Covers Design Competition saw six teams from Southampton Solent University each design a 6m x 6m marquee space suitable for a corporate event or corporate day out, as part of their Interior Design degree course. The emphasis of the brief was to show innovative use of fabrics with Custom Covers producing the winning design for display at October's Showman's Show.
Simon Bell, Custom Covers Technical and Production Director stepped into the winning marquee to award the £200 first prize to Odell Brookes; "Odell and her team of Catherine Smith and Anna Bee really presented well and then followed up by producing a complete portfolio".
"The team's ideas were well developed and original, such as a spiral roof that mimicked the opening 'gun barrel sequence' that has graced every Bond movie since 1962. Some of the team's designs would work for a single use and some with re-usable linings" continued Bell " They did really well to beat off stiff competition from five other excellent teams. We are working hard to build a close relationship with the University, as these students are our future. We help them take their inspiration and transfer it into the commercial world of manufacturing and sales as part of their degree course. The winners did a great job and the 'Casino Roof' is now part of the Custom Covers portfolio. In fact we sold this one!" |
