 Brief
The MOD identified a need for lightweight shelter that would be able to be erected in a short time providing battlefield logistics support. In partnership with a design and build company Custom Covers developed a structure to meet this requirement and were awarded the contract.
Design
The structure has to allow rapid erection in the field, provide a light proof enclosure and be air transportable. This led to the adoption of a linked truss beam with kader grooves for attachment of the fabrics.
Manufacture
The challenge to cut and weld the door sheets was over come by careful production planning ensuring that the numerous attachments to the sheets were added in the correct sequence. An innovative Kader zip was also developed to allow an easy method of opening the door to allow passage of the aircraft.
