Winning entry: skyline linings Southampton Univ student Holly Catford collecting best interior design prize presented by Simon Bell production director of Custom Covers

A team of five interior design students from Solent University has won first prize in a competition run by Southampton-based marquee manufacturer, Custom Covers (1984) Ltd and helped the company win an Exhibition award for best interior design at the annual Showman's Show held at the Newbury Show Ground.
Solent University and Custom Covers have been working together for three years and the competition has been an integral part of the course work.
In addition to prize money the winners had their ideas and designs made up and displayed at the annual Showman's Show in Newbury, Berkshire. The only show of its kind in the UK, it is a shop window for outdoor and special events, attracting interest from all over Europe.
Sarah Dryden, the tutor who runs the interior design course for the students was keen to work with outside partners to help stimulate the students. Comments Sarah: "Working with Custom Covers has been inspirational for the students and has given them an excellent introduction to the problems and challenges faced by designers working in the real world."
The winning design, proposed by team member Hanna West, was inspired by "Sex & the City" and simulates a skyline at dusk.
The design was developed and made up by Custom Covers, using an opaque backing cloth, in which windows have been cut. The sky line linings manufactured using fuchsia and black cloth gave the design a warm evening glow.
Production Director, Simon Bell commented: "Our partnership with Solent University enables us to encourage the young designers of the future and to support local education at the same time. It also gives us access to a wider design stimulus and opens us up to the ideas of these talented young people and helps keep us at the cutting edge of the events industry."
