Company profile

Custom Covers was established in 1984 as a cover maker to the marine trade. The company has since diversified into the events industry and other complementary areas where it currently derives the majority of its revenue. The Company’s primary goal is to be recognised as the supplier of choice in the covers, marquees and decorative linings market.

The firm is a medium sized organisation currently employing 75 people from its base in Southampton. The staff are drawn from the local cover, sail making and upholstery industries with a high technical skill level and the ability to bespoke equipment to customers’ requirements. Custom Covers received recognition for its commitment to quality when the ISO 9001:2015 certificate was awarded to the company following a recommendation from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

The company’s core manufacturing competence is the conversion of roll materials into finished product.  As noted the main areas of specialisation are in the Marquee Trade yet increasingly the company’s skills are being sought by industry.

 

Job Description

Hours of work 08:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:30 - 16:00 on Friday (With 30 minutes for lunch)

  • To promote the Company’s products and sell them to new and existing customers.
  • To work as part of the Sales Team to provide a customer support service to the company’s customers.
  • To carry out sales order processing and maintain relationships with customers.
  • To ensure the database of customer information is up-to-date and accurate.
  • To provide technical support as required by identifying customer specifications, taking measurements, providing drawings for manufacture, etc.
  • To visit customers as required.

 

The Requirements

  • The successful applicant will need to be flexible, have good communication skills and mathematical skills, Academic qualifications equivalent to degree level are desired.
  • Sales experience would be an advantage.
  • The ability to work as a team member is essential.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft packages is necessary. Use will also be made of the companies integrated management system Microsoft Dynamics NAV however training will be given where necessary.
  • A clean driving licence is essential.
  • The position is Southampton based but the successful applicant must be willing to travel around the UK as required.
  • Knowledge of the marquee or events industry would be an advantage.
