Deputy Financial Controller

Salary: £25000 to £30000 Dependent on experience

We are looking for an experienced individual to run our day-to-day accounting activities. The ideal candidate will have achieved or will be working towards an ACCA/CIMA qualification and will show a willingness to succeed.

The successful candidate will need to take their experience and improve, not just the finance department, but all aspects of the business. In return, there will be an opportunity to progress towards the position of Financial Controller.

As Deputy Financial Controller, you will need to be comfortable communicating at all levels of the business and will be able to apply practical experience and knowledge to a range of different projects.

Company Profile

Custom Covers was established in 1984 as a cover maker to the marine industry. The company has since diversified into the events industry and other complementary areas where it currently derives the majority of its revenue.

The firm is a medium-sized organisation currently employing 75 people from its bases in Southampton and Winchester. The staff, where possible, are drawn from the local community, experience and internal training give the company the ability to tailor equipment to customer requirements.

Quality of product is essential within the industry and to reinforce this the company has obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification from Lloyd's Quality Assurance.

The company's core manufacturing competence is the conversion of roll materials into finished products. As mentioned, the main areas of specialisation are in the marquee trade yet increasingly these skills are being sought by the other markets.

Job Description

  • To oversee the day-to-day accounting functions
  • To supervise & train accounting staff
  • To carry our month end routines and other periodic activities
  • To drive and take control of a successful department and look for ways to improve processes
  • To monitor internal business activities outside the financial arena
  • To liaise with senior management


  • Experience, drive and communication skills are essential
  • Have achieved or are working towards their ACCA/CIMA qualifications, or equivalent, is desirable
  • Computer literate. We use a very integrated CRM package, Microsoft Dynamics Navision, training will be given
  • A clean driving license will be required


  • Pay as specified and based on experience
