Assistant Accountant - Job Description

Custom Covers (1984) Ltd are looking for an energetic, motivated and target driven individual to join their Finance team as an Assistant Accountant. You will be responsible for preparing the monthly payroll, managing HR records, managing the sales ledger and assisting with production of monthly and annual accounts. The Company.

 

The company was established in 1984 as a cover maker to the marine trade and has since diversified into the events industry and other complementary areas. The company’s primary goal is to be recognised as the supplier of choice in the covers, marquees and decorative linings industries.

 

The firm is an SME currently employing approx..60 people from its base in Southampton. The production staff are drawn from the local cover, sail making and upholstery industries with a high technical skill level and the ability to bespoke equipment to customers’ requirements. The company holds the ISO 9001:2015 certificate awarded to the company following a recommendation from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

The company’s core manufacturing competence is the conversion of roll materials into a finished product. The main areas of specialisation are outside of its core market as it diversifies to keep pace with ever developing industrial markets and new opportunities.

Job Description.

 

Hours of work are 08:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 - 16:00 Friday (With 30 minutes for lunch)

  • To process the monthly payroll to a strict deadline ensuring accuracy.
  • Dealing with starters and leavers, liaising with HMRC and all issues within the payroll function.
  • Maintaining HR files including holiday and absence records.
  • Maintaining and updating Customer records.
  • Collecting monies from customers, dealing with queries and sending statements on a regular basis.
  • To work as part of the Finance Team to provide support, when and where required, across all areas.

 

The Requirements.

 

  • Experience of Sage Payroll is a necessity.
  • The successful applicant will need to be flexible, have good communication skills and a high standard of financial literacy.
  • The ability to work as a team member is essential.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft packages is necessary. Use will also be made of the company’s integrated CRM, Microsoft Dynamics. Training will be given as required.

  • Pay is dependent on experience.

Organisational Structure.
