The Southbank Centre in London has created a series of installations to mark 60 years since the opening of the Festival of Britain
The 1951 festival was launched to show-off new technologies and boost Britain's post-war morale.
To mark the anniversary, RIBA London has created a bandstand designed by Its students. The structure, which will host a range of outdoor activities, is described as a 'very British structural icon' based on the "Skylon Tower": one of the original installations in the 1951 festival
Southampton based Custom Covers was approached by Digory Macfarlane from the RIBA Design Team on 30th March; he was looking for someone to manufacture the fabric installation to the RIBA design . Custom Covers were chosen as the Company had demonstrated flexibility and a wide range of manufacturing and production skills.
Technical and Production Director Simon Bell commented: "this was a fun project to work on; we had a tight production deadline but the brief was tight and we were delighted to be involved in the project"
